Thank You: Every Spoke Matters

By Al Timberlane · Good Morning Ozark American Journal™

Thank you for listening to patients, hearing their stories with respect even through fear, tears, pain, and frustration, and helping reconnect the history that supports their care.

Our gratitude reaches every team: doctors, nurses, specialists, surgical and procedure teams, laboratory and imaging staff, pharmacy, nutrition, rehabilitation, food court and dining workers, volunteers, leadership, researchers, students, janitorial and environmental services, and the people maintaining the buildings, HVAC, equipment, and daily operations. Your work makes this extraordinary system possible.

The personal patient wheel

Two separate wheels: the personal/community wheel sits outside the hospital. The patient is at its center, with the primary caregiver coordinating symptom-led referrals and longstanding care. The hospital’s internal care wheel has a separate hub coordinating its services and specialists. These wheels communicate; one is not a substitute for the other. Department or floor assignments are not mapped here.

The patient’s story comes first. Available records, medicine lists, treatment responses, primary-doctor and specialist contacts, and the patient’s chosen caregivers help complete it. Missing information is a connection to recover while present needs are assessed.

Not every patient needs every specialty. This proposed communication aid distinguishes unused specialties from past care and connections that need attention.

Keep words and dates beside the colors. A past specialty that is no longer needed may be gray without a red warning.

Every spoke matters because every patient matters.
